Pros

Really smart and hard working people, and there’s a lot to do but for the most part rewarding and fun. (It’s a museum, so one would hope.) I’ve been working here for a while now and can see that after getting a lot of feedback on the surveys that said bad employees weren’t being held accountable, management has actually been managing out people that weren’t doing their jobs or just plain toxic. It’s honestly kind of a relief. I read some of the reviews and can see a lot of disgruntled people but I have a good sense of who they were and honestly it was probably for the better they’ve moved on. Museum also has a 20 year vision which is pretty ambitious.

Cons

No WFH, but it’s a museum. Pay is actually competitive for a non profit.

Pros

When management is competent, the experience is great. There's tons of really cool teaching materials (bones, minerals, taxidermy, etc.) donated over the decades. There used to be a really lovely culture of inclusion, history, and community out there. Summer is brutally hot but can also be really fun.

Cons

Management plays favorites, violates safety codes, undermines staff, pits people against each other, and can't open a word document to save their lives. Fire and safety protocol are not clear and misunderstood by the person in charge.
