Awful intern experience - Intern Norfolk Southern Employee Review

Pros

Experience for leveraging in order to apply to a different company

Cons

The intern program is very poorly developed. There isn’t any sort of intern community, and the pay for software developer interns is not competitive by any means. The management is very typical of corporate America, and there is a very poor amount of diversity (both in gender and race). This is true in not only upper management but also the departments themselves. If you are expecting to intern at a company comparable in standards to any tech company, you will be disappointed. They aren’t agile, and I found myself questioning many times whether they even knew how to develop applications. As an intern, I had members of business coming up to me and asking me about application changes. The fact that that could even occur demonstrates their poor grasp of the software development cycle. Easily the worst internship I’ve participated in yet.

Pros

Beautiful, clean building and architecture

Cons

Stressful place to work with a disorganized and chaotic environment before and during the current acquisition where numerous contractors and FTEs secretly complain about being unhappy, unrealistic expectations, and need for massive corporate culture improvements.
