Pros

I have worked at Navartis for 2 years now, having started in October 2023. I was offered a position in the Civils Contract Team, which involves dealing with freelance roles/candidates in the Civil Engineering sector. The first 2 weeks of my employment were spent in the training bay, in which I was taught the basics of recruitment by the Learning & Development Team. After that, I was moved to my permanent desk in the team. As well as desk-level coaching from my team, I had 12 sessions of Module Training to teach my the Navartis way of recruitment. I was taught the main roles that my team recruit for, the major clients within the sector and the general type of projects I would be sourcing candidates for. Over time, I developed enough knowledge to explore the sector myself. This gave me the confidence to win new business, arrange face-to-face meetings with clients and work roles which hadn't been explored by my colleagues in the past. The bonus structure is set out so that the more you are willing to commit to the role, the higher your earning potential becomes. In the freelance team, you are paid an initial bonus for your placement based on how much it is worth to the company, and then a recurring bonus for as long as that candidate stays in the role. I was surprised at how quickly I could grow my stack of active contractors once I had been through the initial training stages. What has really helped me grow at Navartis has been the culture. Before starting here, I wasn't a particularly confident or sociable person. The overall vibe of the office, as well as the outgoing social culture, has helped me develop my people skills to the point I was promoted to Senior Consultant within 2 years.

Cons

What shocked me the most is the pace at which you have to perform at to get a result which most likely won't come quickly (if at all). You can spend weeks trying to get a deal over the line only for it to fall through. I appreciate this is the case with recruitment as a whole. Recruitment can often be glamorised as a high-paying job with mountains of benefits, but this is only the case if you are willing to throw yourself into the role head first and put the work in day-in, day-out. Despite constant support from the team, nothing is handed to you in recruitment. Although technically classed as a sales job, there's no product like people. I can see why someone working in car, house or phone sales could think they would be good at recruitment. There's certainly transferable skills, but it's a completely different level when it comes to problem solving. People not showing up to interviews, client OR candidate, is just part of the day-to-day. The phrase 'hitting the ground running' does NOT mean you'll make a placement in your first two weeks. It's not impossible, but highly unlikely. Some of the most senior figures at Navartis took in excess of 6 months to make a placement, and almost a year to pass their probation. As long as you are driving your input the results will come, but don't expect to make thousands in your first month because you'll set yourself up to fail.

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed and thoughtful review. We’re delighted to hear about your journey at Navartis over the past two years and the progress you’ve made from joining the Civils Contract Team through to your promotion to Senior Consultant. It’s great to know that the training programme, ongoing coaching, and module sessions helped build a strong foundation and gave you the confidence to develop sector knowledge, win new business, and explore new opportunities within the market. We also really appreciate your honest reflection on the challenges of recruitment. As you’ve highlighted, it is a fast-paced and demanding industry where success comes through consistency, resilience, and long-term commitment. We aim to be transparent about that from the outset, while providing the support and development needed for people to succeed.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, we do use these reviews to help understand where we need to improve and also to see where we are getting things right. Reading your recent review we are sorry to hear that you didn’t have a good experience. We do pride ourselves on recruiting people with little to no sales experience and developing them into successful recruitment consultants and we have a huge amount of success stories, which we are truly proud of. We feel our training and development is one of the things that sets us apart part. We also fully appreciate that it is a tough job, that requires a lot of determination, focus and dedication and due to this, some people that join find that it’s not the right role for them… which is common in recruitment. We wish you luck in whatever you choose to move into. Navartis
