Pros

Depending on your manager , good flex work from home. Potential Job Growth ....if you are friends with the right people

Cons

Dishonest. Did not disclose what a "program position" means, programs end in x amount of years and employees need to apply to internal roles to stabilize job employment. This was not clear on the job posting, interviews, and I found 3 months in from someone in the hall way saying "i dont know if i will have a job in 3 years in this program" This is unbelievable and the only advice given by leadership is "network, and lets do a career development plan" all words just to keep you calm, this doesn't guarantee job employment in any form and i was LIED to. This wasn't an anomaly either, I asked multiple people who also did not get informed fully that were external or newer internal. They try to deflect by saying "National Grid gives you the power to choose where you want to go next instead of us placing you somewhere and controlling your path" All stupid words to say, figure it out yourself, we only care if our project completes on time and we meet target, you figure it out in the end...which is fine IF it was clear from the job interview and NOT three months in and not even through leadership but hallway talk....They also normalize constant re-orgs here.....people get shifted around like pawns in a chess board, it creates stress, chaos and confusion for employees to constantly learn new jobs with no pay raise. It is madness here, i regret taking this position and regret leaving my last company SO MUCH. i've only been at NG for 10 months and i am dying inside. I was at my last company for almost 5 years so i know what its like to give a role a chance and learn, but i feel so discouraged here. Praying for a new job elsewhere, please have me in your prayers

Pros

I cannot say enough about how great a company National Grid is. I’ve been here for over four years, and there is truly a culture where employees are encouraged to share their voices. The company regularly conducts surveys to understand how employees are feeling, what they need, and what matters to them... and then transparently shares the results with everyone. I have never experienced this level of openness with any other employer, and I know that none of my friends or family have had similar opportunities. It says a lot that so many employees want their family members to work here as well. Working at National Grid is more than just a job, it’s a lifestyle, and there is a strong sense of pride in being part of the organization. As a woman, I am proud to be part of this “brotherhood” and have never felt that this is a male‑dominated space. There are many opportunities across the company, from field operations to management, depending on your interests. Compensation is competitive and rewards both experience and performance. Remote and hybrid work are sometimes an option, which to me shows a level of trust and respect for employees. I only wish I had joined earlier in my career.

Cons

I do wish there were more opportunities available in Western New York. Many roles seem to be concentrated in Central New York, Eastern New York, or downstate, and it would be great to see additional positions (for others to join the company) closer to home in WNY.
