While working at Multiverse I had one of the most disappointing experiences of my career, largely due to the disrespect I faced from another employee. As a white woman in a position of authority, her actions, demeanor, and words conveyed a sense of superiority that was not only unprofessional but also damaging to the morale of her subordinates, particularly those of us who are people of color.
The microaggressions were subtle yet pervasive, leaving an undeniable cloud after each interaction. It’s disheartening to see someone in such an influential role exhibit behavior that undermines inclusivity and respect. Instead of fostering a supportive atmosphere, her interactions often felt dismissive and condescending, making it hard to feel valued or heard.
It’s astonishing to think that someone in their department —the very department responsible for upholding company culture and employee welfare—could be the source of such negativity. I genuinely believe she could do better by taking a step back and reflecting on her actions. Engaging in diversity training would be a great start, helping her understand the impact of microaggressions and how they affect team dynamics. Moreover, practicing active listening and showing genuine empathy towards all employees can help rebuild trust within the organization.
