Pros

Free parking, not much else.

Cons

Mission is perhaps the most disorganized place I have ever worked. Their policies and procedures are outdated, and their grasp of "evidence based practice" is limited to reading the summaries of studies and formulating policies without the benefit of critical thinking. Their staffing is a shambles, and many units have to send staff elsewhere on a daily basis. Opportunities for growth are limited unless you are a native of the area. Clics are the rule of the day, and those who attempt to get along are simply run over and abused. As for benefits, the health policy is nearly worthless. You will spend hundreds for even the most minor or injuries or illnesses. I have spent less before I became a nurse and was uninsured! Mission attempts to claim that it is a modern health system, but it is not. This is a small community hospital that has grown beyond the limited capabilities that it has.

Pros

Great nurses, resilient community, many leadership growth opportunities, large hospital with many specialties, the only level 1 trauma center in WNC.

Cons

The hours are very challenging. often 5am to 6pm M-F. No additional compensation for extra hours, nights, or on-call weekends. You must love the work, and have minimal need for work-life balance to enjoy working here.
