Pros

Still carries a strong reputation in the region; still maintains a near monopoly in secondary-tertiary care for the region; expanding services in Asheville

Cons

Leadership is unjustifiably arrogant and quite disorganized in recent years - performance in recent years trying to build a hospital system and multi-specialty physician group has been disastrous; Charlotte-based Carolina Healthcare gradually picking off all the hospitals/communities that historically have supported the existence of such a large tertiary hospital in such a small city; Local competition from the much larger, better funded and better organized Carolina Healthcare Systems is imminent, and likely to impact Mission Hospitals in ways for which they are unprepared. Moving to Asheville at this time for a career with Mission Hospitals at this point in time would be a bad idea.

Pros

Great nurses, resilient community, many leadership growth opportunities, large hospital with many specialties, the only level 1 trauma center in WNC.

Cons

The hours are very challenging. often 5am to 6pm M-F. No additional compensation for extra hours, nights, or on-call weekends. You must love the work, and have minimal need for work-life balance to enjoy working here.
