Pros

Benefits including medical, dental and vacation

Cons

Favoritism, nepotism, misogyny. You will be put in your place unless you're one of the Chosen ones meaning young pretty and female. Experience counts for nothing. Some departments are good but it all depends. Management is awful and the two dips in charge are useless and clueless. Hope you get a department that can do no wrong headed by a young inexperienced woman and yourecaet. Miserable but set. Don't get stuck. Don't try to innovate. Don't be you

Pros

Merchants is truly a rare gem. It's a company that will support you and encourage your professional growth long term. Many employees have been with the company for decades, which you don't see much anymore in this modern era. This speaks to the quality of culture and positive spirit that exists at Merchants. I absolutely recommend Merchants to anyone seeking a rewarding career.

Cons

I can't think of any cons.

Pros

- People are generally nice - Have a walking track inside - Cafeteria is decent

Cons

- The company really seems stuck in the 1980s. The whole vibe and structure just screams it. Old management strategies, old technology, old people. - Not much PTO. A combined 18 sick and vacation per year to start. - Long work hours and no overtime. The managers love to say “this is not a 9-5 job” (when it’s already 8-4:45). Expected to work late and come in on weekends if your work is behind, which happens often due to high workload or if you take time off. - Very old systems make doing a simple task much more difficult. - Most/all of the managers are pretty old and implement old school strategies. Very slow to adapt and change. - Very strict on paying out claims, sometimes you feel bad for the claimant. Other companies have much more lax policies. - HR is unprofessional and not very helpful. - Lots of gossip that goes around. - Schedule isn’t very flexible. - The training program was easily the worst I’ve ever experienced. No formal program, lots of “on the job training” where you’re just expected to figure it out for yourself.
