Pros

Some medical and 401K benefits good, but must average 30 hours for medical benefits. Most team members are fun to work with. Management at store level is pretty good.

Cons

Many other stores in town paying more than Meijer. Some starting wages pay out more than what I make after a dozen years! Sad to hear same 8 to 10 songs 3 or 4 times in a 8 hour shift for over 2 years! Corporate too lazy to change the music apparently. Wastes money on many things including posters in the backroom and shelving we don't need. Good luck spending Thanksgiving meeting family out of town. I've been the only person in family that has to work that day for years now. The Meijer family, is the only family this company cares about. Standup forklifts are cheap and unsafe. L carts also cheaply made. DCs get away with sending broken merchandise the stores have to write off as damaged and throw away. Company is micro-manage central. Rules change constantly. Allow us to do our jobs and maybe you'll be able to hang on to good talent. New dress code with Khaki pants is an absolute joke! Union doesn't do much for what they get paid every week. Place has gone down hill fast since Fred passed away. This is the lowest rated big box retailer in tri-county area! Even Walmart has better ratings, yikes. They certainly don't listen to the workers. Their response to the survey we take every year is "Oh you want better communication". Um, NO we want to be paid a reasonable wage AND be treated with respect. This is NOT the same company I started with a dozen years ago!

Pros

The fashions manager was nice and she was understanding about circumstances and things that just come up in life. The points system was also cool because you could cash out points for restaurant or Mastercard gift cards on top of regular pay.

Cons

After the remodel, they started cutting everyone's hours because they couldn't afford the workers they already had. This was irritating because they would cut part timers down to 12 hours a week but give you four hour shifts, so you didn't qualify for breaks you were already used to and also because four hours is not a lot of time to get down and dirty in a task and actually do it well.
