Pros

Nice location, if you can accept giant cockroaches in exchange for nearness to the canal. Sometimes management is away, and you can get work done, and interact with the team without getting shushed. Occasionally you'll get a free beer.

Cons

Owner sees his view as the only view, and isn't interested in professional opinions, or even the client's opinion. He knows what's best, and that's the end of that. Combative work environment, where any talking might be "too loud" and any disagreement with the big boss is going to make you feel like you might be fired by EOD.

Pros

Great clients. Good workflow and process (especially in design now that we have the right UX/UI talent). Plenty of room to grow, especially if you have management, business, and communication skills in addition to technical chops. Up-to-date with the best tech in almost every area, so very attractive for those who want to use ES6, Node, React, React Native in production. Management is attentive to people's needs. Tight-knit team. A couple very nice outings a year such as our annual celebration, go carting, The Escape Room, or a boat party. Conference room table converted to ping pong table from time to time. Arcade machine by the front door. If you want additional opportunities beyond standard development, they are there, but expect to work for it. Compensation is on par with the local markets and performance reviews are fair. Additional compensation programs are in the work.

Cons

Sometimes, the long-term and short-term vision get a little mixed up. If you are a visionary, you might be asked to do a little extra, which can be both good and bad... Level Up is still exploring their long-term options, so it's better for some to put a lid on their organizational creativity unless they are serious do'ers or will be here for the long haul. It is consultation. If the pace and some variability isn't for you, don't apply, but I know that some senior staff have had the same clients for years due to keeping them. Your mileage may vary.

Pros

The people are great, and the work environment is very flexible. Work from home is an option, within reason. The pay is pretty good too, and you get to work in a lot of different technologies and projects. Middle management is very nice. There is a lot of room to grow and explore if you want to take it

Cons

The CEO can be a bit overbearing. He's a nice enough guy, but has a strong personality and doesn't like hearing anything contradictory. There have been times he's told me to do things that are just wrong. Rather than argue, it's easier to nod along and do things the right way anywho. I've seen brilliant engineers just get shut down when raising concerns, or even when asked directly for input, if it didn't agree with upper management's opinion. The middle management is great, and they really try; but it is obvious that their ideas just get cut off. No matter how excited or passionate you are, eventually your passion just gets ground down and you do your 40. Benefits aren't great. Hector is/was a terrible HR guy. Walls don't go up to the ceiling, so you will get shushed if you talk too loud.
