Cons
This used to be an okay company—maybe even “good”. However, over the past few years, changes within Marketing has rendered that function messy and toxic. In public, marketing leadership would say the words you wanted to hear. But don’t listen to what they say, just watch what they do. Soon, it will dawn on you that they talk the talk, but never walk the walk. Management made changes to repeatable processes on a quarterly (if not monthly) basis, which makes a mockery of the term “repeatable process”. Projects would be started, which then go nowhere—a waste of employee time and company money. Promotions within certain teams were largely based on loyalty, not merit—even if complaints had previously been logged against those who were promoted. Anyone who spoke up experienced rampant gaslighting. I’d like to say that I wouldn’t wish any of this on my worst enemy, but it’s hard not to think that the people involved could do with a taste of their own medicine. Over the years, there were many rounds of restructuring, with marketing leadership appearing to have no clue about what they were doing. Did they mistakenly believe that “iterative testing” (a common thing in the tech world) could easily be applied to people instead of code? On the bright side, I’ve learned plenty of life lessons there: what not to do, and who I want to be. Crucially, I also realised that there’s no money or job in the world that could make me compromise my values.
