Pros

Hyatt was fun most of the time, mainly because I liked my co-workers. There are also great perks to the job, such as free nights at any participating Hyatt, decent employee lunches, company events/sweepstakes, etc. Position mobility is also available, based on at least 6 months of performance.

Cons

The job is only good depending on your department manager. If your manager(s) suck, your position can be hell, and you can be worked to the bone. If anything wrong happens, even if you weren't there or were unaware of the situation, you can be blamed. Also, I'm going to be fairly straightforward: the Hyatt Recency Austin at Barton Springs has a bit of a racism problem. The front desk staff tends to consist of "lighter" skin tones. In stark comparison, if you go to the back halls of housekeeping, you'll find that it's mostly Asians. Likewise, the food catering/serving department is primarily Hispanic. Minorities tend to get "hidden" positions away from the public eye, but people of lighter tones get offered the front-and-center positions. My sister worked at Hyatt too (in a higher position than me), yet despite all her hard work and excellent performance, she was offered a promotion in a back office position away from the public (she did not accept). So the career opportunities are there for upward mobility, but the possibility of you getting the position you want is based on bias.
