Pros

Unlimited vacation (omg?), candy walls, well stocked pantries, lovely office space and the list goes on, but I thought I'd narrow it down to the top 3 intangibles (aka things you won't see from pictures/articles) 1) Work life balance. Love the point of 'making your work fit into your life'. It feels truly awesome going to work and doing your best with wonderful (or any adjective that's synonymous with super amazing) colleagues who tough out the day together; it ain't easy, but that's why it's fun. Why work 12 unproductive hours when you can work 8/9 good ones and enjoy the well deserved break at the end, right? 2) Genuine effort by management to engage with staff at all levels It is very heartening to see executives leaving personal notes on replies (eg., Glassdoor) by employees because it shows that they truly care. Beyond the gesture, I think it speaks volumes of the transparency and accessibility all employees enjoy within the company. 3) Career development The career development track in HubSpot is so so so clear. What I really LOVE about it is the fact that everything is so well defined through metrics, definition and time frame (as with everything else in the company actually). The beauty of this system is it gives you ample time to prepare/gear up for the outcome, while also giving you a well structured and balanced framework to measure your current performance against the target- no ambiguity there + accountability for personal growth.

Cons

1) Feedback channels get abit messy/ convoluted This is a tricky one because it's difficult balancing openness and feedback efficacy. The issue with having an open door policy with almost anything that goes on in the office, is that yes, you get fantastic feedback that could bring about the next big change, but on the other hand, it's getting pretty messy (with the company expanding so quickly). Surveys and regular 1-on-1 sessions with managers are effective in garnering qualitative responses, which are useful in identifying pain points/ suggestions. But the issue arises when qualitative responses are gathered through open channels (i.e., internal forums/ company wide surveys); discussions get increasingly lengthy and difficult to measure. Is there a way to streamline the process? 2) Updates about the development of global offices With the company expanding pretty rapidly, it would be great to know how the other offices are doing (i.e., growth plans / head count) because this gives employees more time to chart their career growth based off what is currently in works.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful write-up--as someone who thinks in numbers and bullet points, I particularly appreciated your structure! The push on the update about global offices is a good one-I'm putting it on the list for the March company meeting from Dublin because I am sure you're not alone in that push. And I don't disagree that some of the qualitative threads and over-arching company communication can get a bit daunting--we have some work to do to get that right long-term in my opinion. I love that you still feel the potential for career growth here after four years and that you notice how much work we put into understanding how employees are feeling about their work and the company--it means the world to all of us. Thanks for spending four years helping our team grow, we are super grateful and hope it's the start of many more to come. Cheers, Katie

Pros

The teams you work with are phenomenal. The knowledge combination between an internal customer facing teams, engineering product development teams, and Sales are unmatched.

Cons

Excessive use of PIPs to oust employees after multiple high revenue launches, with no explanation, actual documentation, or factual data. Reviews have been adjusted to allow for terminations post pre-approved leaves. Salaries are a joke. You are always in a cover yourself mode 24/7. Management reviews are consistently a 2 or 3 out of 5 no matter what. If a team decides you aren’t in the group, management will put you on a “unofficial” PIP without telling you, in order to surprise you at a later date. Even if they are unfounded. Beware of possibility of negative backlash post launches. They will feel the need to assign blame ( such as for timelines or issues related to bugs). Regardless of performance or level of involvement. This is an enormous company with many large paths for career advancement. But micro management is rampant, leaving little room for doing the daily expectations of your actual role. This degrades your opportunities for career advancement.
