Pros

Some great staff, at ground floor.

Cons

Management not to be trusted. They will stop at nothing to make more money. Low pay, company refuses to commit to the fair wage scheme. Yet the board is doing very well for themselves. No clear route to progress careers for staff at ground level. Sure there is a lot of talk about the company providing opportunities to progress and earn more money, but no1 really knows what this entails. Staff get fobbed off about earning more money when increasing their skillset due to a total lack of transparency for career and earnings progression. Company appears to have cultivated a very sneaky culture and there are a lot of snakes in the grass. For example, the endless good reviews on Glassdoor look very similar. If a company was writing lots of fake reviews about themselves as part of some PR stunt, what would that look like? John Lewis employs 44,000 staff and only has 100 more reviews. If company would stoop to such lows to deceive the public, what else would they do?

I don’t know what happened with your experience at HomeServe and I’m genuinely sorry that we didn’t get to talk about this when you worked here. Last thing I want to do is challenge your views - because they are just that, your views. However there are a couple of things in your review that do deserve some challenge and clarification. I can’t speak for John Lewis but maybe they don’t encourage employees to leave reviews. We have put the message about Glassdoor on billboards, on our computer desktops, and in emails to the whole staff because we are comfortable with what might be said, we always ask that reviews are honest as it gives us an opportunity to learn. Apologies if you didn’t understand how to progress though the career framework. There are many opportunities to progress within HomeServe, for example, our One for the Future and 2020 Leadership programmes. I wish you’d come to me earlier so I could have explained it to you. Good luck with what you are doing now.

Pros

Great exposure and a chance at a full time offer if you make the internship count.

Cons

Definitely a learning curve as with any company so you need to speak up and ask questions.
