Pros

You have an opportunity to test drive many different vehicle; Resume looks better just because of the brand. No one understands this industry until they walk- the- walk....which is a long walk to Branch Manager. If you make it from Manager Trainee to Branch Manager a personal car is yours to drive everyday, you never pay for gas.

Cons

You work an average 55-60 hours during peak season , then watch out they cut the hours big time even before the X-mas season. The hourly pay is not substainable & the job is really designed for someone that lives at home with their parents. You will wash alot of cars even in your nice clothes they want you to wear in front of the customer. The Quartly bonus is never consistant, it changes every 2-3 mths & you are subject to driving your gas out to work at another location if that location does not have a manager or more than one employee. Also the programs operates as slow as the hiring process; you cannot advance in one year to Branch Managers especially if your branch is understaffed like most of them are across the USA!!! Hertz officially screwed everyone at the bottom of the food chain, Manager Trainee, Assistant Branch Managers in Michigan did not get the 1st Quarterly bonus due to some Net Promotor Score which just became a new factor in 2012. Unfair work practices from a Global Company, the company was profitable but the wages at the bottom remain unsatisfactory. If the company keeps changes the policies for the quarterly bonus program you are left with just $10.50 & tell me who can pay their monthly expenses on just that alone?

Pros

It is possible to make a difference if you are determined enough. Many engineers work hard and most try.

Cons

The company has a ton of tech debt that it recognized, but is not being addressed. Management controls the time, scope and so quality is falling. The people they have hired lack fundamentals understanding of software development practices. The company often will make decisions to save small amounts of money with their facilities and tools they give to employees without understanding the opportunity cost that was lost. Overtime is required. You can't work here if you want to have a family or keep your family from hating you. Title inflation is real. Many people are actually performing one level down from their stated title and those that are not are only not failing due to putting in crazy hours. Middle management wont stickup for their people to ensure they are not burning out. They see it happening multiple times in front of them and they do nothing.
