Pros

Company car with free gas. A job to go to A few decent people to work with Lost some weight because of long hours, no lunch and being out in the heat (although, that's definitely a huge con as well)

Cons

Where to start.... Terrible pay: branch managers are expected to be in the office from at minimum, open to close (7:30am-6pm) while only being paid for 40 hours a week. Your employees' hours get capped and guess who has to fill in those hours while not being paid? Branch managers. Expected to go out and do "marketing" and sales calls but then reprimanded for being out of the office. Expected to be at the counter doing rentals and making sales to set an example but also expected to do a ton of back office work. Countless reports and spreadsheets that are ever changing and meaningless. Deadlines and conference calls that are during the busiest times of the day/week. Upper management is so far removed from day to day operations it is almost comical listening to them try to direct you and your branch. Sales numbers is all they care about and they will do/make you do anything to get there. In the slower months those numbers are nearly impossible. They group your branch with others in an area and treat it as an area instead of its own branch, which is so unfair and impossible to compete with a branch whose fleet is 3x the size as yours. Bonus plan is a joke and changes almost every month. So severely understaffed you're doing the job of 4 people at the same time. No car cleaners so you have to fit that in your day somewhere. Upwards of 30 cars a day! So much to do and so many places you need to be it is impossible to get anything done. I felt like stretch Armstrong on a daily basis. Not to mention the stress of dealing with customers and all their glory. The cops were called multiple times at my branch.

Pros

It is possible to make a difference if you are determined enough. Many engineers work hard and most try.

Cons

The company has a ton of tech debt that it recognized, but is not being addressed. Management controls the time, scope and so quality is falling. The people they have hired lack fundamentals understanding of software development practices. The company often will make decisions to save small amounts of money with their facilities and tools they give to employees without understanding the opportunity cost that was lost. Overtime is required. You can't work here if you want to have a family or keep your family from hating you. Title inflation is real. Many people are actually performing one level down from their stated title and those that are not are only not failing due to putting in crazy hours. Middle management wont stickup for their people to ensure they are not burning out. They see it happening multiple times in front of them and they do nothing.
