Pros

*Every single person at Hectre is amazing to work with, which makes the work environment truly enjoyable. Committed, talented and caring people. *The company is very focused on innovation, so new solutions are always being developed which makes the work interesting and provides lots of learning opportunities. *There is a real commitment to making a difference in the lives of their customers, not just making a profit. *As they are a successful scaling startup, there are heaps of career opportunities within the business as the business continues to grow. These may be in NZ or overseas at their US locations. *They have won global awards, have a lot of market opportunity and already have premier businesses as customers, so growth will be huge. *Just about everyone has the opportunity to travel! *Amazing diversity. I think there are 14 nationalities working at Hectre and a good gender split. *They offer a hybrid work option for those that wish to work part week from home, so there's lots of flexibility.

Cons

It's a scaling startup so the pace is fast. But I guess that's what talented driven people love about startups! If you're a snail, this is not the place for you.

Pros

Any agtech startup still going after a decade has something on the ball. Hectre has been built around an enthusiastic culture and established niche market position in apple sizing at receiving, And thanks to the New Zealand AIP visa scheme, they now (2026) have Series A funding (US$7M).

Cons

1) The company is seriously overextended: too many regions, crops and products to develop and support. And they are now attempting to transition from software to hardware. As a result, they consistently overpromise and underdeliver - for both customers and employees. 2) This is a VERY Kiwi-centric company, despite most revenue coming from the Americas. Hard to see how this works long term. 3) If you don't have much experience and get a chance to cut your professional teeth with Hectre, enjoy the ride! If you expect professional management, look somewhere else.

Pros

It was a decent place to work, but I just didn't have a great territory, as most fruit doesn't grow in the Northeastern United States

Cons

Pretty much trial by fire, you're thrown in with zero training or onboarding and expected to succeed. No training on the product, just learn it yourself and then talk to people about it. Also expected to travel a lot when it is unnecessary
