Pros

HSP does have good benefits (health insurance, 401K, etc) but that is about it. There are a lot of young professionals that work there so that is a plus for younger people.

Cons

The work just never ends, you will fall behind if you aren't willing to put in 16 hour days (in the Production Department at least). Do not under any circumstances accept a Production position here, you will be overworked and underpaid compared to your peers. You will be treated like the black sheep of the agency. There were times I was working 16 hours days and walked by other department's areas in the office to see them shopping on their computers and standing and talking for hours at a time. The gossip here is unlike anything I've experienced in my life. It starts from the top (yes, the new CEO will talk negatively about people behind their backs) and that shows that gossiping is okay at this agency. If you want to move your way up the ladder at this agency be prepared to suck up to upper management and agree with anything they say. If you disagree with their methods or ideas one bit, you will be put on a list of people that will never advance. Management will fight tooth and nail to not promote people that very much deserve it if they are not buddies with them. Same goes for raises. Because promotions are few and far between, do not be surprised if you're thrown under the bus by someone that is trying to make themselves look better. I've seen this happen quite a bit. The turnover at this agency will actually make you laugh. During my years here, I saw 10 people either quit or be fired in my department alone.

Pros

Easy to get a job here to gain some experience as long as you are a conservative; fun company trips. Most mid level managers are good to their employees.

Cons

Extreme lack of work life balance. In fact, upper management is very open to their employees that the clients should not only be their priority during work, but also off the clock. However the pay is not worth it for this lack of work life balance. Upper management is also out of touch with most departments and tries to implement processes that end up causing issues, inefficiencies, and longer work hours instead of listening to the people in the department who are experts in their area. Also no room for growth in most departments outside of occasional management opportunities—however most managers end up getting fired or pushed out if they don’t get in line with upper management. Speaking of which, they fire people on the regular and no one at the company ever feels safe from this happening to them especially because staff is prone to making mistakes because of the long hours they are required to work and when those mistakes happen, management is quick to fire those who made them rather than understand what truly caused the issue. I would highly recommend talking to former employees before working here if you have connections, you will find that many quit without having something lined up first because of the stress.
