Pros

Doing good to the environment. B-Corp, challenging. People who are not in the management are nice.

Cons

Probably a lot of people want to work here because its mission to do good for the earth and people. That is true. But when it comes to its own people, the staff and employee, their so-called people-first is just fooling people to commit working here. The leadership makes volatile decisions in letting go of people they don't like, some even in senior positions such as lead product managers, head of talent acquisition, head of engineering management, and etc. As an employee at the time, I literally saw these people disappearing and found out about it by seeing their Slack being deactivated. It was a horrifying experience and definitely gave a feeling that they don't care about you. I felt replaceable the whole time I was there. Getting a promotion was so difficult. I was doing the next level job for a while but still getting no promotion or salary raise. My manager simply doesn't understand my competence and contribution, which was the reason I left the company. About diversity. Even though they promote female leadership, there is no women in the company board. And I have to mention that we acquired two companies that have female CEOs, one left the company shortly, and other one not involved in the core business at all. There is a new General legal counsel for the company, who as a black woman, only beats around the bushes and gives generic answers when it comes to sensitive questions about gender diversity in leadership, payment equality between genders, and 401k matching (right...no 401k matching folks). This lady for me is the essence of the bureaucratic face-level promise that they give to the employees. The financing is a mess as well. Their mindset of marketing is still at when the company was first founded. The old way of marketing burnt so much cash and didn't really acquire enough customers for its worth. They had to do a big layoff of some of the people they think are "dispensable" to counter their overspend. I do not recommend working there.

Pros

There are some really good, smart people to work with at Grove. Decent pay. All expenses paid trip to the annual company meeting in San Francisco. Employee discount on all products we sell and we also got samples of some of the Grove Co brand products that we developed. Small, scrappy teams – opportunities to help out on lots of cool projects.

Cons

There are also some really not smart people working there, and unfortunately they're director level managers and up. Lots of bad decisions from bad managers which led to layoffs literally every 3 months. Lots money wasted on redundant systems, inefficient workflow and operations processes leading to botched product launches and products going out of stock. Absolutely disasterous Shopify transition — that whole team should be gutted.
