Getting to focus on a discrete area of research and getting access to senior stakeholders at both end user organizations and solution providers. A lot of freedom to plan your work as long as deadlines are met. Tons of smart people.
Cons
Extremely global which can require odd working hours and travelling. It also means that your colleagues are spread all over the world and that you rarely meet. Plenty of group calls etc. are also at inconvinient hours if you have small kids due to both European and American participants
