Good to get in the industry and learn the ropes - Game Designer Gameloft Employee Review

Pros

Worked there for a long time. It's a good place to get your foot into the door and learn hands-on. The people are talented and all have different strengths and weaknesses, which you can learn from too. You get a lot of vacation time, but it's hard to take them (except between projects). High turnover (which is bad) but you can get ahead pretty quickly.

Cons

Salaries are good, but not worth the extra time you put in when crunching, which is ongoing. Can be difficult to plan week-ends in advance. The management (in France) is clueless and changes the design of the game on the fly. As a result, you have to crunch in order to implement bad ideas. You get little help from the local management, since that's how it works there and they can'T really fight back. Not really their fault. But you learn, and move away.

Pros

- Get exposure to the industry - Genuinely had some great and fun days there - Meet some interesting people and make some friends - You're not designing banner ads somewhere

Cons

- Extra political - Monetization driven to the core - March of death during crunch time
