Pros

Surviving a shift without being assaulted

Cons

The children who reside there run the place. There are no consequences for their bad behaviour or violence towards the staff. Management will do anything they can to appease the children over the officers. Body worn cameras and radios either not charged properly or you calls for help are ignored. A massive turnover of staff leaving you working on your own as there's not enough staff to cover. Management are in it for themselves and only look after each other. Or your face does not fit or you oppose their abusive or unfair practices they'll find a way to get you out. Long term staff are only there because they fit in well with the corruption. The children aren't there for petty crimes they have done the most serious of crimes, most have no fear in abusing the staff mentally and physically. Some are placed wrongly and should be in a secure mental facility. These are the most violent and should never be there in the first place. Lots of drug smoking, and weapon making makes it a very volatile environment to work in. It's terribly run and should be closed down. They only pass the inspections because they beg all the staff to come in and act like they are doing everything for those children. If there's no cover they expect you to stay over your working hours even if it's late at night. If an incident happens you'll have to stay and finish paperwork before they let you out, meaning you could be there after midnight and still expected to come in for your shift at 7am. The fact is, it's a money making business. They don't care about you or the children. If you're prepared to bullied by managers, assaulted by the kids or stabbed then this is the job for you.
