Pros

My manager at the time didn’t breathe down my neck and the work wasn’t very difficult. You were paid for travel time and miles driven to each job site.

Cons

The job location kept changing every few days going to every ShopRite in the area. You are on your feet 100% of the time when you’re working. They got my pay wrong on multiple occasions and did nothing to truly rectify the issue. The issue was so bad that the payroll coordinator quit because of all the requests for changes. You would have to drive to every job site with your own vehicle and sometimes you wouldn’t know until a day before. It was never told to me that the job was temporary. Once we finished the jobs at ShopRites in the general Tri-State area I was unceremoniously laid off without my knowledge while promises of more work were made by my manager. Once we were finishing up the list of stores and we were told that there would be no more work we became unmotivated to continue but my manager lied to us saying there would be maintenance work available after but there was none. They called 2 weeks after the last job to let me know I was laid off.

Pros

High salaries. Friendly and highly skilled team mates.

Cons

The boss is mathematically gifted but clearly went through some early trauma and adopted a leadership style that can be best described as Vladimir Putin: lies, propaganda, backstabbing, murder. Your colleagues will greet you with advice to collect emails documenting poor decisions, those will protect you from being yelled at later. Micromanagement and aggression is rampant. Employees feel belittled and insulted. He often complains about the extreme poverty on the streets, yet the company is messy like a homeless encampment. The product barely works. There are no tests and the entire QA team has fled. Nobody knows how the product even works. The boss will ask for weekly progress reports from everyone, only to criticise and shred them to pieces for his own pleasure. Culture is one of mistrust, fear and burnout. Shame.
