Beware - Fabricator First Impression Security Doors Employee Review

Pros

40 hours of work every week

Cons

Poor training. Foremans do not communicate with upper management. I'm not quite sure why there's a second shift foreman. Swamp coolers do not work and management does not care to have fixed. When it rains the roof leaks around the swamp coolers right over the plasma cutter and a saw. I've never, ever worked in a shop with such janky welding machines. The point system used to disseminate products to fabricators and track their progress favors the senior fabricators. They've never analyzed the points system with an ANOVA to find standard deviations which would show problem areas. They just point fingers at anecdotal situations that aren't even fabricators' faults or failures, but heavily affect how management views the fabricator (and could lead to termination like mine). First shifters and second shifters are treated differently. The CEO who fired me (after stating my work was beautiful) was hired one month after I was hired and has zero welding or fabrication background.

Pros

I liked that it was family and veteran owned, and a small enough company to make a difference, but big enough to be stable. There are four showrooms and an outdoor showroom in Arizona, and almost 200 employees. The company sends out recognition emails every time someone positively reviewed us online. There are career opportunities within the company, especially for office positions, to talk to the boss and ask for a spot in another department, or maybe to shift roles into something new.

Cons

There are only two health insurance options, and both have a really high Out of Pocket maximum ($6,350). I know that's had to increase because of the Affordable Care Act, but it would be nice if they offered some different plans that maybe had higher monthly premiums and lower OOP costs for people who know their families will need to use insurance often. I had to buy health insurance from the Marketplace, which costs me hundreds of dollars after taxes, because I knew our family would hit the OOP every year. I would much rather have that come out of my check pre-tax.
