Pros

Equity is a great place to work. There is a lot to learn because the company has many policies, procedures and overall structure. But once you learn everything, you know exactly what is expected of you. There are many resources at your finger tips and everyone has an open door policy. I am comfortable reaching out to Senior Leaders if needed. If you work hard, you can have a great career here. Promotional opportunities are competitive and I had to interview a few times before getting one. But I continuously worked with my Manager so that I was ready for the next opportunity.

Cons

You have to work hard at Equity - this is not a company where you can do the minimum and expect maximum results. It would be nice to have more floaters to help at properties that need assistance to cover vacations, open positions, etc. That would help prevent getting a little burnt out when understaffed. The pros definitely more than outweigh the few cons!

Wow - thank you so much for your thoughtful, motivating, and positive review! You articulated the dynamics of our culture and our business model so well - both the challenges and the rewards. We are thrilled to hear that your love of the company has kept you here for 8 years (and counting), and that you persevered in your pursuit of promotional opportunities until it paid off. You are spot on in your acknowledgment of the competitive nature of working alongside so many talented co-workers and the need to communicate frequently with your manager to prepare yourself for advancement; we hope you will continue to share this advice with friends and colleagues across the company. And finally, we love the title of your review: “Work Hard, Play Hard.” As a company, we love to have fun and to celebrate accomplishments, but we love the hard work that goes into those achievements just as much. Thank you again for your uplifting words, and we look forward to many more years with you as a contributing member of Equity’s success!

Pros

Housing discount, strong portfolio exposure, opportunity to work across multiple communities, and valuable experience in a fast-paced leasing environment.

Cons

Management loves to preach “teamwork” until something goes wrong, then suddenly it’s every employee for themselves. Very documentation-heavy culture where certain managers seem to enjoy writing people up more than actually developing talent. Communication is inconsistent, accountability is selective, and favoritism is hard to ignore. Commission structure is shockingly low for the workload and expectations. Leadership often presents itself as organized and supportive, but behind the scenes there’s a lot of blame-shifting, targeting of employees, and policy confusion — especially regarding employee housing and lease transitions. My own experience at the end of my employee lease felt retaliatory and left a very negative impression.
