Pros

Great company, fantastic staff, good benefits. Equity provides you with a lot of tools for you to continue learning. Company is very tight knit, even though its a big corporate you still see the faces of VP's and RM's they are interested in knowing how your property is doing and etc not like a lot of place previously work at.

Cons

Since company is very corporate-y, a lot is expected from you. You are reviewed on everything and everything has a report based based on your performance, down from how many times you answer the phone, etc.

We appreciate you taking the time to review your first year of experience with us, and are happy to hear that it has been largely positive so far. We agree wholeheartedly with the items you mentioned in your list of “pros.” We strive to offer all of the advantages of a large company (benefits, career growth, training, technology, and structure - to name a few) while never losing sight of the more personal side of running our business. While the nature of being a large, publicly traded company means that we do have a lot of goals, numbers, and metrics to juggle, we hope that our leaders are taking the time to explain to you and your colleagues why each measureable item is so important. We hope you will ask your CM and RM for clarification if you ever need it - after all, Question Authority is one of our Ten Ways to Be a Winner. Thank you also for your advice. We are constantly evaluating all performance - from the sales calls you mentioned up to our senior leaders’ presence and level of engagement at the communities - but if you feel there is an area that is lacking, we hope you feel comfortable reaching out to a member of your local team. The “Who to Call in HR” page on ERNIE is a great resource. We hope to enjoy many more years together making Equity an awesome place to work.

Pros

Housing discount, strong portfolio exposure, opportunity to work across multiple communities, and valuable experience in a fast-paced leasing environment.

Cons

Management loves to preach “teamwork” until something goes wrong, then suddenly it’s every employee for themselves. Very documentation-heavy culture where certain managers seem to enjoy writing people up more than actually developing talent. Communication is inconsistent, accountability is selective, and favoritism is hard to ignore. Commission structure is shockingly low for the workload and expectations. Leadership often presents itself as organized and supportive, but behind the scenes there’s a lot of blame-shifting, targeting of employees, and policy confusion — especially regarding employee housing and lease transitions. My own experience at the end of my employee lease felt retaliatory and left a very negative impression.
