Cons

My time at Embroker was marked by a toxic culture and ineffective leadership. I often found that leadership lacked the expertise to guide employees, creating an environment where teams were more focused on blaming each other than on collaborative problem-solving. Embroker’s claim of being a "digital broker" feels misleading, as fundamental functions like seamless policy modifications and team management are lacking. Perhaps if leaders were less busy pointing fingers and stepping outside of their areas of expertise, maybe the product could see the several much needed improvements. Since leaving Embroker, I’ve experienced a stark contrast in my new role. Leadership is knowledgeable and genuinely supportive, fostering an environment that encourages innovation and views mistakes as learning opportunities. This positive approach has been a breath of fresh air, and has helped gain back my confidence and ability to grow and contribute. In my new role I continue to collaborate daily with other teams and the level of professionalism and respect is strikingly different. Concerns at Embroker: Inequities in Pay: There are significant disparities in compensation that remain unaddressed, leading to frustration among employees. Lack of Promotion Transparency: Career advancement paths are unclear, creating uncertainty and limiting growth opportunities. Poor Leadership Decisions: The Business Operations team has led layoffs under the guise of "efficiency," further degrading customer experiences. Customers frequently express frustration over their inability to reach a real person for support, yet the team remains understaffed. Additionally, outsourcing efforts for "efficiency" have not led to meaningful process improvements. Neglecting Customer Needs: Reducing staff in critical areas—especially when data indicates this is a major factor in declining customer satisfaction—raises serious questions about leadership priorities and strategy.

Pros

Despite the recent poor reviews, it was a great place to work at one point. There were a lot of genuinely nice people and hardworking co-workers. People in middle management were really supportive. Even some on the executive team were supportive and probably meant well most of the time. There was always the potential for greatness and that was exciting.

Cons

Too many side quests and poor execution of ideas that were never going to work or half-baked in a way that caused more problems than it solved for clients and employees. There was a lot of internal resistance by some on the exec team to elevate the company's actual and organic strengths or retain true talent. They either weren't on the same page or there were competing agendas or egos. Very confusing and dysfunctional at the top. Throw in consistent and disruptive re-orgs and layoffs and building momentum wasn't possible.
