Pros

My colleagues are really wonderful!

Cons

Despite CONSTANT lip service to the contrary, their mental health coverage is pathetic. We're told all the time about how much management cares and all the services they provide us, but it's not even close to adequate. We're given an option to visit one of their provider's counsellors, but it is only for short term care. On top of that I purchased Eco's max medical plan for which I pay out of pocket each month, and I'm covered for 8 additional sessions with a private clinician. Restrictions on approved providers, of course. In total? That is 4 months of mental health support. If that's all you need, fantastic! But particularly during a pandemic when more people than ever need ongoing support this is beyond unacceptable. They say they care, over and over they tell us how much they care about their employees, but they do not.

We care about you very much, and we’re sorry to hear you’re going through a difficult time. Please contact HR Shared Services by email or phone — we’re here for you, and we would like to help you understand and access all the employee mental health supports available to you. We hope you take advantage of your five paid personal needs days this year, as well as the free, confidential services you and your family have access to 24/7 through LifeWorks (such as short-term professional counselling and family, financial, and legal support). Other supports could include options like: • Paid sick days and salary continuation for short-term medical absences • Reduced work week options • Leaves of absence We understand that sometimes, employees need professional services beyond what’s covered in our programs and flexible benefits offerings. You have somewhere to turn when things are tough. In addition to HR Shared Services, you can talk to your leader or a LifeWorks counsellor to help you determine the best path forward. Please get in touch, and let’s get started. Your health and wellbeing matter to us, and there are many resources and tools available that can help.

Pros

Here's something fun: Petline hasn't launched yet but they've already made me a better pet-parent. Now certainly, "become a better pet-parent" wasn't one of my goals when I accepted the role, but I've been surprised a few times by my personal growth since I joined the team. On career goals I'll say this: to the credit of the management team at Petline, they've recognized talents and areas I where I thrive before I did. I've been given opportunities that I didn't expect and for which I am deeply grateful. Back to pet-parenting, Petline is a startup and every person at this company is heavily committed to our mission and goals. Just working alongside like-minded folks has made me consider who I am as a pet-parent. I know my pets better than I did before and I know they are happier for it. Petline won't always be a startup, but I'm confident that as we move forward it will be with integrity and the intention to foster an environment where individual strengths are recognized, and weaknesses are supported.

Cons

Petline is a startup and anyone familiar with the concept should know that it takes hard work, a lot of brainpower, and constant flexibility. It can be hard to accept and frustrating when business decisions seem to flow and change like water, but it's rewarding. It might not be for right for everyone, but when it's right, it's right.
