Dangerfield is a circus, I was a monkey - Casual Sales Assistant Dangerfield Employee Review

Pros

Genuinely some of the most talented, passionate people I've worked with who helped me refine my style. Unfortunately I watched most of their spirits get trampled to nothing by upper management who couldn't care less for the wellbeing of their employees or whether their employees could afford to pay rent or eat.

Cons

The worst retail job I have had the misfortune of working for and the google reviews say it all. DF Chadstone had a bully of a manager that, rather than firing for harassment of workers and causing discomfort for customers, DF just relocated to head office. DF Outlet employees had to beg customers to leave reviews about the heat because management wasn't listening to their pleas for air-con so they wouldn't get heat-stroke and be forced to go home without pay. The over-stocking of DF stores creates tripping hazards, concussion risks from falling boxes and other bodily harm to customers and employees. The contract pay rates are essentially the minimum they can pay you by law. Many make only $700-900 a fortnight, most coming from last-minute shift covers than rostered hours (minimum wage per fortnight as described by centrelink is almost DOUBLE that). Doesn't matter if you're a consistently top-performing salesperson, if you speak up about the way they treat you, they will 'quiet fire' you (read: stop giving you shifts). Wanna raise it with HR? Good luck getting any response from them. I wouldn't wish working for Dangerfield on my worst enemy. This kind of company reels you in by branding itself as diverse, inclusive, and ethical but that's all almost all a lie.

Pros

- discount on clothes - occasional good KPI goals - Chill a lot of the time

Cons

- only allowed to wear dangerfield clothes at work. there needs to be at least one other item of the clothing you are wearing in the store, or you are not allowed to wear it anymore (so that if someone says "hey cute top" you can lead them to it and try and make a sale). This means that staff are often having to spend their own money on current clothing - waaay too much stock. have fun pulling any item off the rails (spoiler, you can't! how fun) - the goal is to make money out of people at all times no matter what. felt kinda predatory. if you have ever had a lovely interaction with a staff member, i guarantee you that 90% of it was faked because we are trained to hype you up so that you tap your card - quality went way down. yes, some of the prints are australian artist's prints, but almost everything is of poor quality and is made in china or thailand. most of the accessories can be found on drop shipping websites such as temu or aliexpress. products are not ethically sourced at all.
