Pros

Honestly, it's hard to think of pros. If you love movies, one positive thing to note is that you'll be around them all the time.

Cons

I worked very briefly at CustomPlay, a number of years ago. The fact is, I had such a negative experience during my short tenure, I'm compelled to write this review -- even all these years later. The owner/founder of CustomPlay is an inventor with an Ivy League education; and has an eccentric personality. He'd put policies into place that were unusual, unsavory, and highly micro-managerial. For example: 1. As an employee, I was not allowed to leave my workstation and go to the restroom, unless it was during a designated time for a "bathroom break." There were two fifteen-minute breaks that were scheduled into everyone's workday (I think the first one was from 10-10:15 am...and then the second one was around 3:00-3:15 pm). Outside of these times, and the lunch hour (12-1:00 pm), you weren't allowed to go to the bathroom. The philosophy being that, outside of those specified moments, you were on "company time." 2. Your workday started PROMPTLY at 8:30 AM. The entrance into CustomPlay's headquarters was secured with a lock -- and, in order to enter, you'd rely on the receptionist to manually "buzz" the door open. One of the responsibilities of the receptionist (speaking from my own experience) had been to monitor the precise time of arrival, of employees. If I clocked myself in at 8:30 AM, and I'd technically arrived at about 8:34 AM, the receptionist had already noted my arrival time and reported it to management. This made me feel as though I was viewed as a dishonest person, with poor work ethic; and I assure you that neither of those things are true. 3. Lack of communication, between management and employees. During my short time as a CustomPlay employee, I received on-the-job training. I'd been given the impression that my job performance was satisfactory, as I'd been told a few times that I was doing well with on-the-job training and learning the ropes around CustomPlay's proprietary software. Out of the blue, a few weeks into working at CustomPlay, I was pulled aside and informed that I was being let go. When I asked why, the response was that the owner was "less than impressed" with my job performance. This was quite surprising, when I'd never received negative feedback or constructive criticism from management or peers.

Pros

It's rare to work for a company that is fully engaged in changing the way that viewers interact with media. What this company aims to achieve has never been done before so there is no "rule book". Everyday is a new lesson in media, movies, writing, and customer expectations. Over the years we have created some amazing apps, all of which can be viewed from the CustomPlay's website.

Cons

This job is not for everyone. We have very strict standards for quality. Quality just isn't a phrase here, it's part of a continuous drive to supply our customers with the best possible experience. Everyone who works at this company is movie fanatic and we check each others work continually. Employees with strong egos don't last long.

Pros

You get a paycheck. There's nothing else positive.

Cons

You are a prisoner. You can't get water or go to the bathroom when you'd like. The owner is about the worst person you can imagine
