What a mess...

Pros

You get to watch movies. Even if it is the same movies about 7-10 times during your stay there due to things constantly changing (not improving, just changing)

Cons

The owner will start off with a smile, the people will keep you going there. The product is a terrible mess and originality is frowned upon. It's a product that will never see the light of day. Even after it was supposedly released to the public no one wants it. Thankfully the owner gets his income from other means so you can just be a wallflower and hope it doesn't get sold to some conglomerate. If you are desperate enough to take the sweet-sounding position, make sure you never bring anything up to a manager or person of higher position. They will 1) steal the idea and shop it as their own 2) get you fired for having an original thought or 3) ignore you and put you on the radar for future mistakes. Basically, join up if you are desperate and want to meet some fun people. Don't expect a steady job since the average employee will work there for about 2-4 years until they get bored with you and want the revolving door to keep spinning.

Squandered ideas

Pros

Well, you get to watch movies all day...

Cons

However, you will watch those same movies several times. Owner is an eccentric megalomaniac who will change his ideas based on his mood, which will cause an entire dept to be retooled to this substandard principle he just thought of.

CustomPlay Is A Terrible Workplace. One Of The Worst I've Ever Encountered.

Pros

Honestly, it's hard to think of pros. If you love movies, one positive thing to note is that you'll be around them all the time.

Cons

I worked very briefly at CustomPlay, a number of years ago. The fact is, I had such a negative experience during my short tenure, I'm compelled to write this review -- even all these years later. The owner/founder of CustomPlay is an inventor with an Ivy League education; and has an eccentric personality. He'd put policies into place that were unusual, unsavory, and highly micro-managerial. For example: 1. As an employee, I was not allowed to leave my workstation and go to the restroom, unless it was during a designated time for a "bathroom break." There were two fifteen-minute breaks that were scheduled into everyone's workday (I think the first one was from 10-10:15 am...and then the second one was around 3:00-3:15 pm). Outside of these times, and the lunch hour (12-1:00 pm), you weren't allowed to go to the bathroom. The philosophy being that, outside of those specified moments, you were on "company time." 2. Your workday started PROMPTLY at 8:30 AM. The entrance into CustomPlay's headquarters was secured with a lock -- and, in order to enter, you'd rely on the receptionist to manually "buzz" the door open. One of the responsibilities of the receptionist (speaking from my own experience) had been to monitor the precise time of arrival, of employees. If I clocked myself in at 8:30 AM, and I'd technically arrived at about 8:34 AM, the receptionist had already noted my arrival time and reported it to management. This made me feel as though I was viewed as a dishonest person, with poor work ethic; and I assure you that neither of those things are true. 3. Lack of communication, between management and employees. During my short time as a CustomPlay employee, I received on-the-job training. I'd been given the impression that my job performance was satisfactory, as I'd been told a few times that I was doing well with on-the-job training and learning the ropes around CustomPlay's proprietary software. Out of the blue, a few weeks into working at CustomPlay, I was pulled aside and informed that I was being let go. When I asked why, the response was that the owner was "less than impressed" with my job performance. This was quite surprising, when I'd never received negative feedback or constructive criticism from management or peers.
