Pros

A good stepping off point for anyone wanting to build a career. They'll train you well, but don't stay too long. Good experience in a cGMP environment.

Cons

Company has spread itself too thin with mulitple company aquisitions and no longer can seem to focus on its individual departments. This ultimately has stalled improvement at the department level. There is little to no expectation from upper management for departments to support one-another. The company has very lofty goals and is excited when these monetary goals are met, however the company continues to slash budgets and avoids using increased revenue to fund CAPEX needs or even give employees higher wages. On paper, AMRI pays its employees a living wage. But it is just livable. Most employees live pay-check to paycheck. The company offers "performance-based salary/wage increases," however, these increases are a pittance that only just covers increasing inflation rates - typically no more than a 3% increase of your current salary. This year however, the company broke with its tradition to supply a wage increase disguised as a performance bonus, because the company failed to meet its overall goal. Overall the company is horribly understaffed with very few seasoned and skilled employees. Most employees come into AMRI, learn what they can and leave when they realize there are no career prospects. The upper management is by no means out of touch or unaware of the needs of people in the labs. I've heard many town halls and company wide meetings where employee needs and issues in the labs have been brought up, upper management (the CEO and otherwise) consistently dismiss and downplay these issues and never act on them. There is an unwritten rule that employees are expected to work more than 40+ hours per week, even though most full time employees are salaried at 40 hours. Many senior level scientists are expected to work 60 - 80 hours per week (without bonus pay or overtime) for the sole purpose of meeting unrealistic deadlines. Typically the company does not show appreciation for this level of work but instead is critical of it by positing that these employees aren't managing their time well enough... The company has a very deep problem with sexism in the work place. I've heard many upper level scientists creating very clear examples of sexual harrassment. Complaints never seem to be handled.
