Pros
Great pay compared to other universities and great pay+benefits compared to other employers in the area Large enough to move around to other departments to keep things fresh Adequate funding (for now) to do some really neat and innovative things
Cons
If you have local roots, they know they have you -- most other employers in the area can't compete with the pay + benefits -- so they are not incentivized to give you raises or promotions. You might be given more work in the spirit of personal growth and/or departmental innovation. But don't hold out hope to be compensated for it, especially given the political attacks on universities right now.
