Pros

Good mission and purpose for existing (helping children)

Cons

Cult-like environment- controlling, invasive, campy, no freedom to challenge They make employees sign a code of conduct that says they can fire you if you get drunk, have premarital sex, live with the opposite gender if you're not married, or other behaviour they determine as bad.

We’re sorry to hear your time at Compassion didn’t end well. We strive to create an environment that is challenging, but also allows flexibility to learn and grow. In fact, we encourage staff to push against the norms, and challenge us to expand our boundaries. There are exceptions to that rule, however. Compassion is committed to remaining steadfast in our Christian principles. We believe strongly in God’s Word, and while societal norms may change, His Word does not. We are grateful for this constant, and the fact that we can rest in His promise that He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow (Hebrews 13:8) and never goes out of style.

Pros

I can't say enough good things about Compassion. I've been here almost eight years, and I have no plans of changing that any time soon. The holistic model they have for child sponsorship. They have a similar holistic view of their employees. There's a strong focus on work-life balance. They make a generous contribution to our retirement plans. I may not have this quote exactly right, but I believe the president of Compassion has said, "The most important thing about you to Compassion is not what you do, but it's who you are." And I believe him.

Cons

No place is perfect, and the bigger they are, the less perfect they are. I wish it didn't take as long as it does to bring about change when it is needed, but it's a big ship and it's slow to turn. However, to paraphrase a funny quote, "Compassion is a lot like pizza. Even when it's bad, it's still pretty good."
