Pros

Open Source mindset Great on Creating and Giving opportunities to the Open source community Dozens of AMAZING Open source Projects Geek is not enough to describe their level of knowledge You get to know people you admire from the Open Source community You get to know new people from the shadows of Open Source You get to know technology that don't even exist yet You are encouraged to work on your Open Source Project and they help you. Great atmosphere within your teammates You can work from home You can choose to work on projects that interest you You can go to amazing Open Source conferences for free, including hotel and food If you have a great open source project, the company will ask you to keep doing it and will give you money for that. If you have an AMAZING OpenSource project the company can help you build your own company by investing people and money on it. You can work from anywhere in the world.

Cons

Communication between engineers and non-engineers is difficult Hard to create standard processes, disagreement on every subject ( vim vs emacs) Most conversations are Open Source related only. You can end up working 24/7 because you want to, forgetting to live your life

Pros

easy to submit time sheet, paid every 2 weeks, accumulate vacation, not onsite so no micro management - no punching a time clock, just electronically submit time.

Cons

everyone is very hard to understand due to strong accents. Staff reads from a script each time the call - even to check in. Quite condescending to not have a real conversation - even responses are scripted.

At Collabora we do not see accents as an issue, we are an international company and our accents are a great sign of diversity. Sorry if you felt that conversations were script based and tick boxed, this isn't common practice and nor the way we operate.
