Pros

Cohere as a company is moving in the right direction - the technology is cutting edge and is helping advance healthcare. It has done nothing but grow at an exponential pace, which some may find exciting. Cohere is almost entirely remote which eliminates commuting and allows you to live wherever you want. The PTO policy is likely better than average (4 weeks - but includes sick, bereavement, etc.) If your priority in life is your career, you function well with little structure, enjoy consistent change, and value growth, this would likely be a good fit.

Cons

If your priority in life is anything other than your career, Cohere will likely not be a good long term fit. Unfortunately like many places nowadays the culture confuses "hard" work with volume. Work life balance and respect for personal time are in very few people's cards. The only time you will come close to working 40 hours in a week is if you take a day off and thats just the honest truth. After a few years I could count on 1 hand, maybe 2, how many times I took a true lunch break and im confident that applies to the majority of people in salaried positions (hourly get scheduled breaks and lunches). Being fully remote at Cohere means an incredibly heavy meeting oriented culture. You will spend anywhere from 50-90% of your day on calls and in virtual meetings to make up for the lack of in office collaboration. This of course seldom leaves time for 'real' work to be completed during regular hours, thus leaving your early mornings or evenings to feel like you are able to get anything done. Besides PTO, remainder of the benefits are very average. Compensation for most positions also feel average, maybe slightly better. If you are not willing to put in an extra 10-20 hours / week as the standard expectation, are easily frustrated by constant change and lack of structure, do not enjoy high demand in a high(er) pressure culture, this is likely not the place for you.

Pros

Remote position, effective AI tools

Cons

Aggressive productivity standards enacted after being employed for a short time: 2 months. Low pay compared to similar work at other legacy insurance companies. You are told when training that as long as you follow the Work Instructions and ensure doing the prior authorizations correctly- you will be fine. But Work Instructions are NOT updated, then it is challenging to find the answer. Slack is used for searching and asking questions, or visiting one of the multiple Zoom rooms. You are on camera for entire shift in a Zoom room. It seemed to me leadership does not care about precision and doing the job thouroughly but more so doing as many cases as possible- yet you are audited to do cases a certain way and that certain way differs from one Subject Matter Expert (SME) to another. The nurses are teaching the AI chatbot how to get smarter and take over doing the simpler cases, But the chatbot assists the nurses as well all while the nurses are teaching the chatbot.
