Pros

Decent pay for the job you’re there to do. Learning about the process of prior authorization. Meeting new people.

Cons

There is definitely favoritism. They say the job is 90% phones but some people who are in a training class with maybe have like 5-10% phone time and most offline time. So when they get QA scores it’s based on all the easier, offline functions, which allow them to move up quickly. I’m already seeking other employment and I hate to say that because I genuinely love my job but the company culture says it’s one way but doesn’t really operate that way. I hope they will work that out so that they can actually be so much better.

Cohere Health Response

At Cohere, we really value team members' feedback and truly thank you for taking the time to share how you feel. The alignment of team members to the type of work is not a matter of favoritism. It is a tremendous level of complexity handled at an hourly interval level basis across 100’s of team members. We encourage you to speak directly with a member of the leadership team about your aspirations and goals for your career. We are very interested in your professional growth and want to help you achieve your goals. We are very honest with our team that the majority of an Intake team members’ time will be spent servicing our customers via the phones. We have a defined career laddering program for our Intake team members that is accessible via our internal web based resource page and is reviewed with new team members live quarterly. We encourage you to ask your leadership team for more information. We are very committed to promoting from within and developing talent. We can’t wait to be a part of your journey.

Pros

Remote position, effective AI tools

Cons

Aggressive productivity standards enacted after being employed for a short time: 2 months. Low pay compared to similar work at other legacy insurance companies. You are told when training that as long as you follow the Work Instructions and ensure doing the prior authorizations correctly- you will be fine. But Work Instructions are NOT updated, then it is challenging to find the answer. Slack is used for searching and asking questions, or visiting one of the multiple Zoom rooms. You are on camera for entire shift in a Zoom room. It seemed to me leadership does not care about precision and doing the job thouroughly but more so doing as many cases as possible- yet you are audited to do cases a certain way and that certain way differs from one Subject Matter Expert (SME) to another. The nurses are teaching the AI chatbot how to get smarter and take over doing the simpler cases, But the chatbot assists the nurses as well all while the nurses are teaching the chatbot.
