Pros

Benefits and salaries are above average. Work-life balance is good. Extensive use of open source and standard technologies. Some best practices including continuous integration. Locations convenient to train stations.

Cons

More demotions and layoffs than promotions the past few years. Arrogant senior management. Arcane business knowledge valued more highly than technical competence. Many manual processes that could easily be automated but are not. Many outdated legacy systems. Severe risk aversion that inhibits improvements. Locked-down computers. Big brother surveillance. Depressing office environment. Awful coffee. Low expectations for developer productivity.

Pros

- Friendly working environment. - Slow-paced and relaxed. - Opportunity to work on high-impact financial software. Quite useful if you want to get into a trading firm later on.

Cons

- Limited skill growth capability (tools are severely locked down, etc) - Work life balance can be shaky sometimes since systems fail after 5pm, weekend, etc. - Documentation is terribly organized. - Not enough focus on engineering culture. Overall probably not the best place to stick around if you like exploring new skills, building from the ground up, taking ownership etc.
