Pros

You get to work with an amazing group of people that are all rooting for your success, feel pride in the company (federation) you are working with (for), know that you are helping the small businesses in and around your community and across the country and make a great living while doing that. The base salary gives you the confidence to know that you are covered, but when you put in the work and follow the system that has been created you can make so much more. Great to know that you can create an amazing work life balance, and the management team helps you do so. When you are having difficulty or need some pointers or tips there is a great crew of managers and trainers that can help you get back on track and give you the tools you need to succeed. In short as long as you are coachable and do the work you can succeed in this position!

Cons

I honestly love it here, so none.

Thanks very much for the generous review. As 2021 is CFIB’s 50th anniversary, I am really happy to see that our organization’s culture remains a supportive one for our team. Our colleagues really do take great pride in supporting each other while focusing on supporting small business owners across Canada. I’m also pleased that as a District Manager, you recognize the balance of the base salary and the significant upward earning potential based on performance. I really appreciate these positive comments, but continue to welcome any constructive criticism or advice on how we can do better. Thanks again for writing.

Thanks for the positive review. No surprise, but I agree with you that we have a positive working environment and some incredible people working for the Federation. I just wrapped up 2 days hosting our new colleagues from across Canada in our national office in Toronto. It was great fun and left me very confident in the new crop of staff we are bringing in across the organization.

Pros

Work for a great cause

Cons

Pay structure is capped everywhere, you have to always be a top sales person or you will never get anywhere, the top or nothing to survive on, you will burn out

Thanks for the feedback. I’m pleased that you identified with our cause at CFIB. Small business owners have really struggled this past year and I have been so impressed with how our team has responded with advice and support. We’ve just completed Zoom meetings with our teams across most provinces, and staff are consistently reporting how proud they are to work for CFIB at this critical time. I’m sorry that it appears your pay expectations were not met. The District Manager job is not always an easy one and needs to be treated as a full-time role. While things were particularly challenging over the past year (due to the need to contact business owners virtually for several months), I am proud to report that nearly 15,000 small business owners made the decision to buy a paying membership during the pandemic. With the unprecedented awareness and interest in CFIB, this certainly helped us attract new members despite the challenging economic times. While serving our members is our main focus, our entire senior management team is committed to making CFIB a great place for staff to work and earn a good living. I believe we do a really solid job of that, but I am always looking for input from current (and former) staff along the way. Thanks for writing.
