Pros

The people at the plant were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. There's a lot of support, if you know where to look for it, and if you don't, the people will provide it if you ask them. Cemex is system heavy in a lot of ways, and provides a ton of data and reports, if you need them.

Cons

The on-boarding process is a bit hectic and disorganized. Hand me down equipment (laptops) and scavenge your own monitors made for a bit of a hard time getting set up for success. Being stuck into a broom closet for an office didn't help with the transition either. When your office isn't big enough for you to hang a hard hat and coat, it would be nice to have a locker or somewhere else to do so, but the on-board process isn't set up for that either. It felt a little like I was stepping back in time to the mid 20th century, in regards to some other things too. There was no way/place to play a DVD in the plant when I arrived (which would be okay, but Cemex also blocked all my video files from Dropbox, so I couldn't show them that way either). Makes it hard to to safety training, when you can't download video from the web, you can't show video from the web, and you can't show safety DVD's either. There's no on site training room or area, and the plant has no capability to copy in color. There's one printer that will print in color, but it breaks down weekly, and most of our computers can't stay connected to it. Locker rooms and break areas are in poor shape, although there is a drive to improve them in 2020. Sometimes, management gets so caught up in running from fire to fire, they forget how to actually manage things, so as to prevent fires. They will spend 7 days a week fighting a problem, rather than hold someone accountable, and prevent it. Cemex needs to approach things from a long term vision; rather than hire the cheapest contractors to do outages, and then require extra Cemex supervision 24x7 to manage them, why not set the expectation that contractors manage themselves, and have proper management built into the project? Use Punchlists to hold workers and contractors accountable for safe and complete jobs.
