Pros

CAE has tons of pros. It’s a global powerhouse in what it does and it’s fascinating every day to see all the pieces working to make that unfold. They have tons of experience and data available that they’ve built over the years and the only real limit to what they can accomplish in aviation technology is their own bureaucracy. At the surface, it’s a very employee friendly company. People are well paid, they offer high quality benefits, work/life balance is strong, the company’s global footprint and openness to putting positions where the people are versus necessarily requiring people to relocate for their position is a huge plus.

Cons

CAE’s own worst enemy is itself. They plaster everything with the term “One CAE” and senior management seems to genuinely believe in that concept. However, they don’t walk the same walk they’re talking and the tagline has become more of a joke to those working there and couldn’t be further from describing the culture. CAE is heavily divided and siloed with departments frequently competing with each other as if they were entirely separate businesses. This is done because the company treats the budget process like the hunger games. Everyone is out to get their piece of the pie before the music stops. Defense and Civil may as well be two entirely separate companies with no relation whatsoever. Everything one does is duplicated entirely separately in the other and the two do not communicate. Then, within civil, business aviation and commercial aviation are constantly competing for resources and trying to drive the business in a direction that favors their needs over the other. This leads to exhaustive meetings filled with personal attacks, gotcha email chains, enormous quantities of duplicated work, millions of dollars spent on computer systems and processes that do exactly the same thing. Often, analysts and specialists spend a massive portion of their time simply building the case for their bosses to present to justify their work group’s continued existence. Different departments become extremely protective and territorial of their processes and this leads to a complete breakdown in cross-departmental collaboration. When I say it’s bad, it’s BAD. They reorganize the company about every year, so department leaders are constantly on the defensive to ensure their functions are still relevant in the new year. There are constant layoffs, even if in small numbers, which give people a very poor sense of job security.

Pros

CAE offers the opportunity to work in a highly respected and technically advanced aviation environment. The work itself is meaningful, especially knowing the impact our services have on pilot safety and training outcomes. Many of the employees are knowledgeable, dedicated, and genuinely care about doing the right thing for clients. The Las Vegas team is collaborative, and there is a strong sense of teamwork when challenges arise. Leadership has supported improvements during periods of transition, including operational changes and facility moves, and there is exposure to multiple areas of the business that support my professional growth. CAE also provides solid benefits and stability as a global organization, which is reassuring in a fast-changing industry.

Cons

Like many large organizations, business decisions are made without the appropriate change management or the end user being considered. Resource constraints, such has limitations on hiring, particularly during periods of growth place additional strain on frontline teams. Communication and alignment between departments or Centers are inconsistent. Some operational issues would benefit from more proactive planning rather than reactive fixes. There are opportunities to further invest in tools, equipment, and infrastructure to better support employees and client.

Pros

Great team of people to work with, easy going environment, amazing benefits especially pto and sick time

Cons

Lots of nepotism among management that favor relatives or close friends for hiring, promotions, or assignments, also micro management and a get it done attitude rather than focus on quality
