Pros

During my time at BombBomb, I was given many opportunities and chances to learn and grow. I worked hard, grew my skill set and had a great boss that nurtured my growth and career path. I worked with team members that collaborated well, helped each other out when things got tough and overall created a great company culture of support and growth. My boss, myself, and nearly a third of the company were let go in the latest round of layoffs and therefore this culture is going to be really hard to rebuild.

Cons

With the recent hiring of a new COO, the company has had two rounds of significant layoffs. It has become clear that when the CEO hired this person, he had full intention of making big changes - to the detriment of his employees - and hired someone to do his dirty work. In the first round of layoffs, nearly the entire marketing team was let go in order to hire an outside marketing agency - whose CEO is allegedly dating BombBomb’s new COO. The CEO claims to want to “rehumanize the dehumanized”, yet in the latest round of layoffs (in which I lost my job), he and the COO left us with 1 week of severance pay and 4 days left of health insurance… After my attempt to negotiate severance was denied, I’m left feeling pretty dehumanized.

Job change is a major life event. We recognize that our new direction called for hard decisions and those decisions impact people. First, the comments about severance and insurance suggest a less than complete understanding of the benefits and options in the package. We encourage you to contact HR for further clarification. You mentioned the COO. She joined the company recently bringing 20 years of experience in improving and growing similar but larger tech firms. The unfortunate fact is that we already faced challenges before she arrived, such as increased competition and a soft economy among other things . In our regular town halls and departmental meetings, the entire organization was aware and engaged in projects to address these issues. There was transparency, there was encouragement and directives to act and show initiative. The characterizations regarding our founder and CEO are yours to express. Respectfully, great diligence and equanimity were used throughout this process. There is no joy in it. But companies generally do not “negotiate” in these situations for a range of reasons among which are fairness and employment law. We thank you for your candor here. We very sincerely wish you success in a new chapter.

Pros

Amazing team culture! Everyone works well with each other. Sometimes companies need to pivot, and that's okay! They know who to keep around, as long as you say "yes" and can fit in with the crowd, they'll keep you around. It probably also helps to not have a large salary.

Cons

Layoffs left and right, but it's for the greater good.

Pros

Pretty good culture. I think leadership generally cared about people and doing the right thing but maybe made some bad calls from time to time.

Cons

Success, status, promotions, influence, etc was too much of a popularity contest. There were people who were the favorites who had doors opened for them, who had big influence on decisions, and who were promoted regularly based largely on how likeable they were and how much they buddied up to senior management. I'll say this wasn't extreme or obnoxious, but it was definitely noticeable and is something I heard multiple coworkers observe as well.

Thank you for sharing your input and for doing so with thoughtfulness and nuance. We appreciate that you recognized the genuine care leadership had and continues to have for our people, even while naming something that fell short of the standard we hold ourselves to. We take your feedback regarding consistency and fairness in recognition and promotion to heart. We feel strongly that advancement should be driven by merit, contribution, and clearly defined criteria, not by relationships or visibility. Our leadership and team structure have undergone significant changes, bringing a genuine recommitment to building transparent and equitable processes. We've been focused on establishing clearer frameworks for how decisions around promotion and influence are made, so that every employee has a fair path forward regardless of tenure or relationships. We're grateful for your candor as this is the kind of feedback that helps us reflect and hold ourselves accountable. We wish you well as you progress in your career.
