Pros

Large company has many opportunities for moving roles and/or locations and working on various projects. The research and technology team is full of young, talented researchers. Fantastic work-life balance with pay given for any hours worked overtime. Benefits, including 401K match (you put in 8% of your pay, they match 6% + 3% bonus), are top notch.

Cons

The buildings are depressing and outdated, especially at older defense sites. Besides the research team, many of the employees are senior, conservative, and traditional. As a woman, working there was sometimes difficult and uncomfortable. The work can be very slow, bogged down with approval processes and many many status meetings.

Fantastic benefits and work-life balance. 401k match is unmatched!

Cons

Easy to get pigeon-holed into a role. Try exploring ways to stay pro-active and do different things

Pros

Easy going, nice benefits, free further education (masters/PhD). Great for an engineer starting out who needs to dip their feet in the pool of engineering for a few years and to get a great 401(k) match at the start of your career (compounding growth). Great for late stage career due to the benefits and solid enough pay in a low cost of living area

Cons

pay-scale lagging, no emphasis on learning new things, no punishment for people who are bad at their job. After working for 4 years, I feel like I should have jumped ship after 2. I haven't been given meaningful work that really challenges me in a while. Now I feel pigeonholed into staying because I have enough years of experience that I really should be considered senior, but I haven't been given work that reflects what I senior engineer should be capable of. Now I'm trying to jump ship before it's really too late. If I stay here another 2 years I think I will be genuinely unemployable and will have to stay at this company forever.
