Pros

- Clients typically tip better than industry standard - Clients are generally friendly and reasonable - Extensive travel opportunities (required) - Upward mobility into corporate roles possible - Schedule assigned farther in advance than industry standard - Room provided (often shared), some food provided - Work is usually autonomous, without oversight from bosses. Just get the job done! - Work in beautiful places with (generally) awesome coworkers

Cons

- Company is absolutely unyielding in many policies - Despite this, absolute flexibility is required from all employees - No flexibility given for arranging off-season work - Very difficult to have a life outside of work (best if you are single) - Time off for major life events is treated as a privilege - While the tips *can* be good, the base salary is far too little, especially given the difficulty and sacrifices of the work. Ultimately the pay is unreliable. - Company is having trouble navigating the turbulence of the industry over the last couple of years, and is passing that difficulty on to employees ie over-hiring and responding by firing/soft-firing many qualified employees - Very racially/culturally homogenous. Comes with the territory, but the company isn't doing much to change that. - Company is running into issues with their overseas operations and compliance with foreign laws. - Company expects employees to adhere to a corporate culture and policy set while treating those employees like low-level service workers

Thank you for your openness and for highlighting both the positive aspects of your experience and the challenges you faced during your time as a Trip Leader. We recognize that the nature of seasonal, travel-based work creates complexities around personal-life balance. While we feel confident in the structures we have in place for our staff—generous time-off policies, the ability to request additional flex time, and industry-leading compensation and benefits packages—the reality of the job, and the travel and tourism industry as a whole, is that it’s seasonal and can be unpredictable. It’s a lifestyle that’s not for everyone. We also remain committed to increasing diverse representation—as reflected in the creation of a new position and framework focused on social and environmental impact, along with metric-based annual goals—and to strengthening our international operational compliance. Our recent efforts to establish over 17 different payroll entities across the U.S., Canada, and Europe, allowing us to employ Field Staff through their home countries and local contracts, demonstrate our commitment to compliance, employee well-being, and retention. Your feedback underscores the importance of these efforts, and we sincerely thank you for your candor and honesty.

Pros

The product (luxury active vacations) is phenomenal. It's great to be able to have confidence in what we're selling and know we are leading the industry in quality. Coworkers are great - hard working and fun. They also do a good job with benefits, especially trip credits and retirement plans.

Cons

Bay Area cost of living is quite high and while the sales role isn't a tech sales job, increased compensation would go a long way considering working remotely (full time) is essentially not an option.
