Nepotism, poor pay, overworked employees, and NO empathy - Sales Team Backroads Employee Review

Pros

Would be a fun job as a trip leader. Or MAYBE anywhere outside of the sales/service/guest focus teams for a first job if you live in Berkeley. The company is strictly in person aside from work from home Wednesdays. All departments outside of the ones I named above call Wednesday, "second Saturday."

Cons

Their leadership team is the worst. When people have personal issues, the leadership team, especially the founder and Executive VP, make those individuals feel worse. They don't care about hiring long term employees on the sales side since they can churn individuals and continue to pay them $52k. I knew employees who had been there 10 years and were making barely $70k. All long term employees are there because they've only worked at Backroads for their entire career and that's where their friends and entire life is.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. At Backroads, we take pride in fostering a supportive work environment, and we're disheartened if this was not reflected in your experience. We're actually quite proud of our high average tenure across the company; we are regularly celebrating anniversaries for 5,10,15 year and beyond. Our business is unique and quality is of the upmost importance, we need our technology to support both of those things; this isn't a fast process but we are committed to making these improvements. In line with our guiding principles, we are striving to increase representation at all levels at Backroads. Thanks for your feedback, and we wish you the best in your future endeavors.

Pros

The product (luxury active vacations) is phenomenal. It's great to be able to have confidence in what we're selling and know we are leading the industry in quality. Coworkers are great - hard working and fun. They also do a good job with benefits, especially trip credits and retirement plans.

Cons

Bay Area cost of living is quite high and while the sales role isn't a tech sales job, increased compensation would go a long way considering working remotely (full time) is essentially not an option.
