Pros

There is a pool of high performing talent and inspirational individuals. You get an opportunity to take ownership of what you do and some of that is genuinely exciting stuff! (but see cons). Grateful that they retained jobs during a trying time.

Cons

Work life balance is poorer than similar consultancies but is badged as a selling point. The organisational structure is unclear, barring a hierarchy based on career level and you are pulled in multiple directions by different people ‘laying claim’ to you and your time. These people are often not motivated by the success of the wider organisation but their own career advancement, the two rarely align within the organisation. This con is in part tied to my pro about owning your future, but with it failing in practice more recently. Our ability to or willingness to invest and execute on what we talk about is diminished. Whether that’s innovative work with clients or internal development and initiatives. We talk a lot and focus less on doing it the last fiscal year. Proper process is thrown out the window if it gets in the way of the people trying to win work. This ultimately impacts the people who have to deliver it. Recruitment process is long, painful and complacent. Many of us had 4 interviews including the screening process, most of it was very repetitive with gaps of sometimes a month or two between steps with no reason given. Tech is competitive!

Pros

The projects are really large so you'll get great experience. The benefits are good. The people are, for the most part, really nice at the lower level.

Cons

Always restructuring. You don't actually work for Avanade you work for Accenture under the name of Avanade. Accenture is always trying to absorb or downsize Avanade and even the execs don't have real power there. Plus all work and decisions are also controlled by Microsoft, so if they're doing extremely well then Avanade does and then Accenture fights for their share of the money in some shady way.
