Pros

The people you work with on a day to day basis are incredible. People at Atlassian care about others and do whatever possible to support each other. I've made genuine friendships with teammates and have learned so much from the people I've worked with. Atlassian is a great career stepping stone for those intending to stay somewhere for a couple years to get good job experience and have the name recognition on their resume. During my years, I've absolutely gained experience to push me towards new roles at different companies.

Cons

- CONSTANT reorganizations, layoffs, company direction changes. Every 3-6 months, there is a large change that will negatively impact how you work. The last layoff that occurred in March 2026 impacted individuals in high priority roles that had been with Atlassian for 7+ years, which in turn slowed or fully stopped large scale projects. - Team headcount becoming leaner every quarter, workload increasing even more. Expect to see people leave and not have a backfill come in. If you are on a team of 3, you will be expected to have an output of a team of 10 and your timelines will become even tighter. This is of course leading to mass burnout and long term employees leaving in droves. - APEX and stack ranking. No explanation needed. - Little to no career growth. If you're aiming for a promotion, be prepared to work well outside of your role responsibilities for several years, and be prepared to write your own packet for a possible consideration. Promos are incredibly hard to get for most ICs in the Creative Brand/Marketing department, and teams are limited to a certain number of promotions each cycle (meaning if your teammate gets promoted, you will not be eligible until next time). There are teammates that have been overperforming in their roles for 5+ years that have been turned down for promos with reasons of "not being the right time" or their accomplishments being them "doing what is expected".

Cons

I want to start by saying I am not bitter or angry. Working for Atlassian was a whirlwind. I was there for 11 months before being laid off via email. In my time there, I went through 2 re-orgs and 3 managers. It just always felt like being on a hamster wheel… in a hurricane. Today I received an email 7 weeks after I was laid off that started with, “ Congrats on your first year at Atlassian—we know that's a huge accomplishment and are beyond thrilled to be celebrating with you!” It was a bummer to receive that, to say the least, but it included a link to leave this Glassdoor review to “ help provide invaluable insight to future candidates and help us to improve your experience as an employee continually.” so here I am. My advice is to do proper change management of your automated emails when you layoff 5% of your workforce so that emails like this aren’t sent to hard working former employees that you eliminated congratulating them on a milestone they never reached. I know this wasn’t intentional, but it hurt.
