Pros

I loved the people I worked with and my job. I really felt like I was making a difference. Make you feel like a big fish in a small pond. Training is fantastic.

Cons

There are no career advancement opportunities, micromanage, do not utilize their limited budget correctly, do not always hire qualified candidates, high turnover rate, terrible work-life balance (I worked 60 hours/week at least), do not follow FDA guidelines, high pressure environment due to constant budgetary mistakes. Example: they fly employees from Salt Lake City, Utah to Las Vegas, Nevada; have them stay at MGM, rent cars, and pay for their food/entertainment ($1,000+ for food and entertainment alone each trip). Entertainment = gambling, shows, etc. They do not report all expenses.

Pros

My experience working with the Red Cross has been great. The work is fulfilling and the people are passionate. Benefits are good - Kaiser is $6 a month!

Cons

There is work life balance, but there is an expectation to work nights and weekends.

Pros

Flexible remote hours, supportive team that treats volunteers as contributors rather than interns, and a low-pressure environment

Cons

Tooling is limited compared to corporate environments — primarily Excel-driven, so you won't get exposure to modern BI stacks (Power BI, Tableau, Snowflake) unless you bring them in yourself. Data sources are inconsistent (legacy .xls files, manual exports requiring conversion), so expect clean-up work.
