Pros

Access to places you would otherwise not get in.

Cons

One of the worst jobs I have ever had! i can't wait to move on. Nothing about this public-serving, front-line job is pleasant. Except the donors. They make it good. Working among some people that give off the impression that they don't know how to behave in public and in a professional setting. I honestly feel as if I am being punished. As if I am in some sort of place that is designed for people that can get work after they served some time in prison. Some of the people come across as flat-out disturbed. Others make it a really simple place, but the bad outnumbers the good. I am more than convinced that management on any level does not care about, let me say it again, their front-line employees...hmm. That would be the people that come in direct contact with the public...and last time I checked Gail, those donors were the reason for our organizations existence. Called HR to mention things that went on. She didn't return my phone calls, until I hit her up on the email. Bam! There you go...a quick response to that. Sad. The attitude here, and yes, from the new people that are coming on board is that THEY DONT CARE. Another thing I noticed is that some of the people both in Albany and Bethpage are sneaky. They will tell management something, but they won't run it by you. Weird. It creates a hostile environment and also makes us less inclined to be honest about let's say, a mistake made. Some people promote that weird kind of culture. To me, that's a bizarre way to work. If I make a mistake, tell me. Don't wisper it and speak about it to others. have to say, I pride myself in sticking it out. I honestly feel that the American Red Cross does not care about their employees and I'm happy to share this with others. I won't be donating blood or money to this place as well. The Red Cross has been an absolute disappointment. What a joke! A prerequisite to working at the Red Cross....make fun of people...😎

Pros

Flexible remote hours, supportive team that treats volunteers as contributors rather than interns, and a low-pressure environment

Cons

Tooling is limited compared to corporate environments — primarily Excel-driven, so you won't get exposure to modern BI stacks (Power BI, Tableau, Snowflake) unless you bring them in yourself. Data sources are inconsistent (legacy .xls files, manual exports requiring conversion), so expect clean-up work.
