Is this your company?

So much potential, little follow-through - Senior Recruiter Amazon Web Services Employee Review

Pros

Way more opportunity to innovate and make an impact than I expected from such an enormous company. Great people, very fast-moving, definitely pushes you outside your comfort zone.

Cons

Opportunities are there, but incredibly slow to see change. A very, very heavy top-to-bottom approach to everything from tooling to HR policies. You have to operate within a 'one-size-fits-all' model and there is no room for nuance. Very approval heavy, escalation heavy, can be draining and slow down your work. **The RTO policy is devastating. So much amazing talent lost, and it's so difficult to position Amazon as an employer of choice when policies are so forceful and tone deaf. That, combined with more and more limitations on compensation (limited pay raises, no bonus structure) makes it hard to feel like you are being compensated for your work.

Pros

Ambitious projects if you're in the right team. Typically great team-mates. Don't believe the memes, the ppl are not back stabbing jerks but are overall genuinely nice. Not constrained by budgets when building cool things. Tools while sometimes clunky are powerful.

Cons

Schizophrenic lack of focus, entire teams get split, merged and upended multiple times a quarter. Some product managers are disconnected from reality. It didn't use to be the case, the PM-Ts were previously top notch. You're pushed to vibe code everything. Established products with loyal customers are getting neglected. Newer VP level leaders don't seem to know what they are doing. Veteran OG VP level leaders are either leaving in droves or seem stressed or checked out.
